The Shufflebus!

Sustainable Ballard’s Undriving SHUFFLEBUS:
Human-Powered Transport, Fred-Flintstone style
At the Sustainable Ballard Festival September 29-30, Fest-goers of all ages got to ride on and drive our human-powered shuttle, the Shufflebus. Traveling like modern Flintstones, we shuffled from exhibit to exhibit to learn about chickens in the city, making biodiesel, and cooking with local ingredients; we shuffled to the music stage and stopped in for a performance; we shuffled down to the Sunday Farmers Market and back, delivering and collecting passengers. The Shufflebus also transported notable speakers to the stage - starting with Congressman Jim McDermott who gave the opening talk Saturday morning, and ending with Jim Diers, creator of the City’s Department of Neighborhoods, who gave a rousing talk on Neighbor Power to close out the Fest.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer featured the Shufflebus and Sustainable Ballard on the front page of the Local section on 9/29/07 - check it out.
SB’s Shufflebus was inspired by Feet Theatre’s Feetbus, from Melbourne, Australia. Thanks to Tim Monley and Feet Theatre! Thanks also to Marv at Canopies by Fred, Goodwill, those who save old cans of housepaint, and Vic, Julia, Ingela, Timm, Jennifer, Susanne, Jenny, and Michael.

That’s Congressman Jim McDermott in the second row….

Your Shufflebus is such fun! Every community needs one for its conferences, county fairs, expos and more!
