Undriving and Undriver Licensing

\”not take a ride to work ever. It\’s just as easy to walk & I get to read poetry.\” -Mimi

WE ARE UNDRIVING BALLARD….AND BEYOND!

Undriving is a program of Sustainable Ballard, A Blueprint for EveryTown, USA, designed to reduce carbon emissions and oil dependency, ease congestion and parking, and encourage community connections. By increasing awareness of personal transportation choices and eliciting individualized car-trip-reduction pledges, Undriver Licensing playfully engages people to make more informed and empowered transportation choices. Our research shows that Undrivers frequently establish new transportation habits as a result of their pledge. They also consistently discover the many benefits of Undriving, some of them unexpected: less stress, more exercise, saving money, increased sense of community, more connection with the elements, no parking hassles, and even more time.Everyone’s an Undriver or potential Undriver – to get licensed, all it takes is a pledge to try making a change in the right direction, big or small, and see what you discover.

Undriving was officially launched at the 4th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival, September 29-30, 2007. After this rousing success, we started taking Undriving on the road; check out our Calendar to see where we’ll be when.

THANKS!

Thanks again to King County METRO for generous support of Undriving. This project follows on the success of Ballard In Motion, conducted in 2006 by King County METRO in conjunction with the Ballard Chamber of Commerce, Groundswell NW, and Sustainable Ballard.

Thanks also to the King County Police Union’s My ID Club for loaning us equipment, and to our wonderful fiscal sponsor Urban Sparks, and to all the volunteers who have helped to shape and carry out this program.
